Citizenship

Delaney tends to say the following when asked about school:
"I don't know." or "I don't remember."

She's been getting a little better. She really loves school, and continually sings the various songs about colors and sing-songy rhymes about how to draw numbers. Every day she comes home with papers in her backpack, mostly her workbook pages she worked on at school that day. I'll ask her about them, and she gives pretty vague responses. As soon as she's home, she's ready to play, draw, or write stories. Yes, Delaney is an author. She will draw a series of 6-11 pictures (all on separate sheets of paper), then we staple them together, along with a title page that she writes herself: "Story and Pictures by Delaney Henderson" plus the title. Then she narrates the story while Pete or I write it for her. It's a very cute process.

I digress. Friday, Delaney came home from school, looking not especially happy, nor sad or upset. Just kinda average. I looked through her backpack, and start to read over the weekly Kindergarten Newsletter...to find out that Delaney won September's Kid of Character award. According to this award, she best represented the character trait of citizenship. AND...come to find out on Saturday when I was sharing the fun news with her Poppy, she mentioned this: "Yeah, and we had to go to the principal's office and we got our picture taken." I am SOOOO proud! For this award, Delaney was one of the best behaved students, always listening to the teachers, being kind and friendly to her classmates, and keeping her hands to herself. We are so proud of you, Delaney!
