Bad Decisions, Illinois Budget!

Okay, so I tend to stay clear of any policital or religious posts on here...mostly because our (Peter and I's) views, beliefs, and values are not widely shared with friends. However, I will hop on my soapbox for just a couple minutes to rant about the State of Illinois and our amazing "budget." Like most people, states, and countries, Illinois is in debt, and badly. There are schools that have posted on their signs how much the State of Illinois owes them. For example, on one it stated: "The State of Illinois owes our school district $6,329, 876." I mean--WOW! That's just ONE district. Okay...so moving on to the next point...because of the budget and deficit, thousands of IL teachers have lost their jobs for next year. This saddens me. I'm a huge supporter of public schools, and our children will always attend public schools.

On to my next segment (I promise I will combine these two very separate points). As you drive south on I-55, you can see beautiful nature, trees lining the highway which act as a NATURAL buffer of sound and sights of the highway to local residents. However, this past spring hundreds of trees were cut down...killing nature, taking away natural oxgen resources...but providing jobs, right? Whatever. Now instead of the natural buffer, sound barriers are being put up. I'm sorry, I feel NO pity for those who purchased a home next to a major highway. It's not as if this highway was just built. Nope...been there since long before me and their homes. So, while the State is providing jobs to construction workers (a very noble, hardworking profession), we are getting these ugly walls to look at so we don't have to see or hear "traffic." Quite necessary? I think not.

So, instead of keeping teachers in their jobs, educating our children, investing in our future, we will destroy natural resources and build ugly walls in order to create jobs (which will only be temporary, mind you). Well done, Illinois. Great budgeting, wonderful decisions. And now, our children's education may suffer, classes will grow in size, attention will decrease, focus may be lost. I applaud you. (insert sarcasm).

I will now hop off my soapbox...

I drive down 55 on my way to my parents house... and I was thinking how much I was going to miss the pretty trees and landscape along the way. I think the walls are nice for people who live along there... but you are right- they choose to live there!

I think you are a closet conservative.

Sorry, Nichole...NEVER! I believe in a woman's right to choose, same sex marriages, gun laws, healthcare reform, public education, and the environment. Oh, and HUGE separation of church and state. Not sure if much or any of that is conservative...heehee! But, I do love my conservative friends. ;)
